(1) Browse these Skills Lectures and ask questions/make observations on the “Skills Lectures”discussion forum. Write a minimum of 100 words. These lectures are to help you with the fundamentals of college work. This is your first graded assignment.
I have not assigned specific textbook readings or homework for the first week; instead, I want you to browse the textbook and choose a work to serve as the primary text for your Bibliographic Essay(see the description on the Syllabus Assignment Descriptions page).
You should do an exploratory search of the library catalogues and online databases to make sure there will be sufficient research available for the text you will choose for the Bibliographic Essay. You should also have a look at the primary text, (the literary work in our textbook you will research) unless it is something already on the Syllabus (or something you have already read).
Also, start reviewing the sample Bibliographic Essay and other supplements in the Week 4 module. Post any questions you have about the Bibliographic Essay assignment by the end of this first week to the “Bibliographic Essay Preliminaries” discussion forum (this is optional, and will not be graded). If you don’t know primary text to choose, ask me; I can make suggestions.
(2) On the “Mythology” discussion forum, post some links (web addresses or URLs) to web sites you find that are useful for understanding the many references in so many of our readings to world mythology, legend, and other supernatural or foundational narratives, characters, etc. Briefly discuss one or two mythological references of interest to you in Egyptian, other Near-Eastern, Nordic, Asian, or other cultural mythologies. Write at least 50 words.
