Briefly describe the ten management roles Mintzberg found in his studies of executives. Select five of the roles and provide work scenarios when a typical manager (possibly you) would be carrying out theses roles. Use the same manager for each role. DO NOT use examples from the book.

Dr.Henry Mintzberg identified 10 different roles in managerial work and defined each role to be a structured collection of behaviours attributed to an identifiable position or function.
The 10 roles are as follows –
1. Figurehead – acting as the head of the organisation, the manager carries out symbolic and ceremonial work.
2. Leader – the manager motivates the subordinates and fosters a proper work favourable atmosphere
3. Liason – the manager maintains and strengthens network of external contacts to gather information
4. Monitor – the manager collects external and internal data, information relevant to the organisation
5. Disseminator – the manager transfers value based information and factual data to the subordinates
6. Spokesperson – the performance and policies of the organisation are conveyed to the outside world by the manager
7. Entrepreneur – the necessary changes the organisation are initiated and designed by the manager
8. Disturbance handler – any contingencies, operational breakdowns or unexpected events are dealt with by the manager
9. Resource allocator – the use of various organisational resources are controlled and authorised by the manager for the benefit of the organisational entity
10. Negotiator – negotiation activities with other people or Institutions or organisations are carried out by the manager.
The aforementioned roles are categorised into three subcategories.
The first three contribute to interpersonal contact, the next three contribute to information processing, and the last four form a part of the decision making process.

Tom fosters proper work atmosphere and hence acts as a leader for the store. Tom conveys value based information and factual data to the store employees, thereby acting as a disseminator. Tom talks to its employees regarding their hikes increments and promotions , and to his vendors regarding the prices of their supplies, fulfilling his role as a negotiator. Tom called Upon The Fire extinguisher when there was a fire which broke out in one part of the retail store. He acted as a disturbance handler in this scenario.
